I have left them in the sunshine, sprayed them with lysol, cleaned them with leather cleaner, nothing seems to work.

I have a LOT of books. When I was getting divorced, my ex set about trying to ruin as many of my books as possible.





One of them in an original Child%26#039;s Garden Of Verses, that has been in my family since the 1800%26#039;s. It is bound in soft suede leather. By the time I found it, and some other truely valuable books, they had black mold growing on them.





I set them in the bright sun for a day to dry. The next day, I dusted them HEAVELY with baking soda. I then packed them in a box, pouring more baking soda over them. Then a layer of cedar wood chips, then more baking soda, books, baking soda, cedar chips, ect.





It completely halted the advance of the mold on the books. It also emoved the smell of the mold in the books. Now they just smell like cedar chips. Indeed a lot of the mold just disapeared, or was able to be brushed away with a soft brush.





Someday when I have the money, I%26#039;ll send the valuable, and sentamental books off to be professionally restored. Most all of them have leather book covers.





I think putting you boots into a bag, or box with baking soda and cedar chips will halt the mold, and get the smell out for you. You can even put the bakin soda inside the boots, as it will not harm your skin. Just don%26#039;t put the cedar chips inside your boots, as you will be a month of Sunday%26#039;s picking those out!

Reply:stuff them with fabric sheets and paper towels and let them air out, but not in the sun, that will ruin the leather.....
Reply:Sprinkle baking soda in them and leave them out for a while. The smell will eventually fade. Other things to try would be spray deodorant, and talcom powder, or odor eaters spray or powder. The thing that will help the most is time and air. When the smell gets to where you are able to wear them, then do so. It will help a lot with you wearing them, but spray or powder them everytime you take them off.
Reply:Stuff them with old new paper and put them in the sun. Also sprinkle some bicarbonate of soda in the shoe, put a lot in and leave them for a day or two. Good luck.

lipstick remover for leather you can find it at walmart. it comes in a stick . apply it to stain let set for 3 to 5 min then wipe clean with a clean white towell. dont use any water.

Reply:Yes although beer is made up of an organic compund(mostly ethanol).. it is an alcohol(it has a hydroxyl group which makes it soluble in water.. one of the few organic compounds that is) and thus you can exploit this property by doing just that.. wiping your boots with water.

You can buy a spray protectant at stores that sell leather wear. I used some on a leather jacket and it sheds water like a duck!
Reply:Best product to use is la..zy leather a one step cleaner and protector specially designed for leather. If you use mink oil and it is an aniline style leather you will ruin it.

Reply:If it needs to be cleaned and isn%26#039;t suede, you can use a barely damp cloth dipped in water and Murphy%26#039;s Oil Soap. To simply maintain the leather, use mink oil.

I think black leather boots can be worn anytime. I love boots! Maybe not with shorts in the middle of a hot sunny summer day but there are times in the summer when boots still look great.

Before you do anything else, find a dry cleaners in the phone book that cleans leather (most of them don%26#039;t) and get their advice on what to do. Barring that, call a shoe repair store. . Or see if the boot manufacturer has a website that can advise you. Good luck, I hope you can save them!
